Manners of the Heart®
is a 36-week K-3rd
grade curriculum that promotes building
character based on self-respect and respect
for others. The curriculum is divided into
three parts: Everyday Courtesies,
Communication Skills, and Table Manners.
Manners
of the Heart - Workshop for Parents
This 2-hour
workshop is designed for parents of
elementary students, whose children are
currently receiving classroom instruction at
their schools in the
Manners of the Heart
curriculum. The basis of the program is the
curriculum companion piece for parents,
Manners of the Heart
at Home. This guidebook contains
corresponding materials and training to
reinforce at home the 36 units teaching
communication skills, everyday courtesies,
and table manners.
Manners
of the Heart - Workshop for Teachers,
School Staff and PTA/PTO Leaders
This 4-hour
workshop provides training for classroom
teachers who are being issued the Manners of
the Heart curriculum for use in their K-3rd
grade classrooms. Objectives include:
(1)
Provide an overview of key principles
associated with each of the 3 blocks of
instruction: Everyday Courtesies,
Communication Skills, and Table Manners. (2)
Provide instruction on using the activities,
puppets, and supplies included in each kit,
as well as using repetition to enhance
learning. (3)
Discuss relationship of
manners education and character development. (4)
Emphasize the
importance of a common strategy for
developing partnerships between parents,
teachers, and community to reinforce and
reward learning.
Building Strong
Character for a Lifetime®
is a 38-week, 4th –6th
grade curriculum. Designed as a “stand
alone” program, it builds upon character
traits and skills developed in
Manners of the Heart.
The curriculum has three parts:
Building
Strong Character,
Manners Reflect Character,
Additional Activities and Enrichment
Building Strong Character for a Lifetime

Leaders
This 4-hour workshop includes
training for classroom teachers using the
Building Strong
Character for a Lifetime
curriculum in their 4th-6th grade classrooms. Topics include:
1) An overview of the 3
instruction sections: Building Strong
Character, Manners Reflect Character and
Additional Activities and Enrichment.
(2)
Using the paradigm of BUILDING in curriculum
implementation.
(3) Examining the options
for scope and sequence design.
(4)
Building a parent, teacher, and community
team to achieve application level learning
both in and beyond the classroom.
